The Gettman family wins first prize for this Christmas post card photo. One of the most difficult of winters but also one of the most picturesque.
This Clarence Glassbrenner photo tells us Deer Park was covered with a blanket of beauty as well.

Looking due west from the Clayton Community Church in the winter of 1948-1949 Kap Westby's barn is seen decorated in its finest Christmas attire. It was the roughest winter in any one's memory and it was the very first that photographer Clarence and Lillie Glassbrenner spent in Clayton.
Violet Zimmerer's photograph of Clara, Hazel, Johnny & Ron Zimmerer shoveling snow off the barn roof in the winter of 1949-1950. There was a difference between the winters of 1948-1949 and 1949-1950. The winter of 1948-1949 had more snow and the fence posts were totally buried. In 1949-1950 the temperature dropped to -20F or lower and remained that cold for at least 6 weeks. With the first one you were snow bound, with the other you couldn't get your car started.
